Trigger Point Injections
Trigger points are localized areas of increased muscular activity and sensitivity to pain. When you palpate or massage a muscle that contains a trigger point, the trigger point feels like a "knot" in the muscle. This is the tissue component or the "mechanical" component of a trigger point. When pressure is applied to a trigger point pain is felt both locally and may radiate into distant areas. This is the neurological component of trigger points.
Trigger point injections involve injecting saline solution and medications such as lidocaine or marcaine, or a natural medication like Sarapin. The saline solution allows for an expansion of the trigger point and a mechanical breaking up of the scar tissue, adhesions, and tension of the trigger point. The medication treats the pain and neurological component of the trigger point.
Trigger point injections are safe and effective ways to treat myofascial (soft tissue) pain.
Joint pain can limit joint mobility, range of motion, strength, stability, and overall function of a patient. At Mayfield Advanced Medical, one component of our approach to joint pain is joint injections. There is a spectrum of what can be injected into a joint from a pain relieving medication (such as Sarapin ropivicaine or others), to supplemental joint lubricating fluid (such as hyaluronate, known as viscosupplementation). Besides helping to decrease pain and improve the lubrication of a joint, injecting into a joint allows for expansion of the joint capsule (the ligamentous bag that encompasses the joint), which produces increased range of motion and decreased pain.
Perhaps the most exciting treatment that we offer at Mayfield Advanced Medical is Regenerative Medicine. Regenerative medicine taps into your body’s own capacity to heal itself. Your body has the ability to heal, such as when you cut yourself and the skin heals. Other parts of your body have this same capacity, but sometimes need a little extra stimulation to do so.
By injecting specialized cells and fluids into points of pain, regenerative medicine provides your body the boost it needs to rebuild on its own.
The medical staff at Mayfield Advanced Medical inject specialized fluids containing hyaluronic acid, regenerative (stem) cells, and cytokines into painful joints. The cells may be collected from blood, fat, or skeletal muscle. These compounds are powerful growth factors that help prompt your body to regenerate healthy tissues. Regenerative Medicine can be effective in treating joint pain, joint degeneration, and soft tissue (muscle, ligament, or tendon) injuries.
Being overweight puts you at an increased risk of developing serious, chronic health conditions, including Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. It also puts you at a higher risk of arthritis, back pain, depression, sleep apnea, and stroke. Infertility and reduced quality of life are also associated with being overweight or obese.
At Mayfield Advanced Medical, the providers oversee the weight-loss program. They develop a nutrition program and offer exercise guidance to help you achieve your goals. You’ll receive behavioral support and education on achieving a healthy weight, too.
Invisa-RED® Weight Loss
What is Invisa-RED®?
Although traditional diet and exercise strategies can help you lose weight, some stubborn areas just won't slim down. Invisa-RED is a targeted slimming device that targets weight reduction without the assistance of exercise and low-calorie eating.
This machine uses a combination of frequencies from red and infrared laser light energy to penetrate your fat tissue up to a depth of 40 millimeters — much deeper than many competing body-slimming devices. The energy shrinks the cells within your fat tissue, liberating fat from storage, which is then eliminated by the lymphatic system or used for energy.
Invisa-RED also boosts your metabolism, so you have a heightened calorie burn following treatment and continue to burn fat for several hours after treatments. Invisa-RED therapy complements the nutritional support and counseling you receive to help you achieve the physique you desire efficiently and effectively.

Dry needling is a treatment approach that inserts fine filament needles (similar to acupuncture needles) into the body in order to treat many common neuromusculoskeletal disorders. Dry needling works great for many kinds of muscle pain including trigger points, chronic pain, joint pain, headaches, nerve pain, and many other conditions. The most common question we get about dry needling is, "Does it hurt?" While there may be some pain during the procedure, the way we practice dry needling at Mayfield Advanced Medical is to produce as little pain as possible. When it is effective, dry needling is one of those treatments for which a little bit of pain is worth the benefits you receive. Contact us today at Mayfield Advanced Medical to discuss dry needling and how it can help you with your conditions.
At Mayfield Advanced Medical, we teach our patients how to perform special "blueprint" exercises which can help strengthen and correct the irregularities in their body which may be causing pain. Many of these corrective exercises can actually be performed in the comfort of your own home to help improve the effectiveness of your chiropractic care and spinal correction plan. In addition to skeletal misalignment, you may be experiencing pain that is caused by muscles and connective tissues which are out of their proper place. Other types of pain such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches are caused by muscles and tissues that are being used improperly, causing injuries over time. In each case, targeted corrective exercises and stretches from our experienced chiropractor will help you feel good while also helping your body achieve balance and health.
Many of our patients come to see us to address a specific pain symptom such as back pain, neck pain or headaches. While our staff will address each patient's specific condition with, we often find it helpful to "coach" our patients towards achieving a healthier lifestyle. For example, there may be certain activities that you should avoid or do differently to prevent yourself from unintentionally aggravating your particular health challenges. The goal of including lifestyle advice with our care plans is to help each and every patient achieve the fulfilling and happy lifestyle they deserve, one that is full of the activities that are enjoyed most. We recognize that every single one of our patients is a whole person, and we use our expertise to help them reach total health and wellness.
What does nutrition have to do with how your body feels and functions? The goal of holistic integrative care is to help patients achieve total health and balance with their body, and as part of that goal we provide specific recommendations on nutritional supplements and healthy food choices. Nutritional counseling by our experienced health professionals can assist a patient on their return to optimal health. Do you know which supplements and vitamins are good for you? Do you know how these supplements and vitamins interact with one another? At Mayfield Advanced Medical, we can provide each patient with a structured nutritional program that is based on their individual needs.
Massage therapy does more than make you feel good, it can actually help your body achieve balance and health. Massage therapy offers a natural treatment approach which actually relieves musculoskeletal pain for many patients. Our office provides specific massage and muscular therapy that is complimentary to our other treatments. Each massage therapy plan is tailored to meet the patient's unique pain condition or injury. The benefits of massage therapy may include the increase of blood circulation, a localized reduction in swelling and the relaxation of muscles. Massage has been been known to relieve muscle pain and spasms, increase a patient's range of motion, while also aiding in a patient's recovery. Some investigative studies have even indicated that a single session of massage may help boost your immune system!
